He pulled out his cellphone, answered it, squeezing it between his shoulder and chin as he tied his shoe. You have got to be shitting me. I got up from my chair and paced around the room. "What took you so long to get here?" I heard him ask as he finished tying his shoe and resumed his position leaning up against my desk. "Oh yeah, I know how that goes," he laughed. "Yeah some drama went down, so we're up in her office just cooling down, we will be down soon though. How do things look down there? Everyone having a good time? No fights? . . . Excellent, yeah just give us some time and we'll be down . . . okay, see ya." With that he hung up the phone and turned around to see me still pacing covering my chest with my hand. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asked walking up to me. "I thought that you were . . . oh nothing, forget it," I smiled trying to bring my heart beat down, taking slow breaths. He looked at me with an odd look and then smiled. "Okay, well a certain Marty Turco is downstairs with his wife and would love to see you," he smiled pulling me out of my office and into the bathroom down the hall. I fixed my makeup, as well as my hair and looked up at Sidney. "Thank you so much Sid, I could have never done this without you." I leaned up and gave him a kiss. He kissed me on my forehead and we walked back downstairs hand in hand.

As we walked back into the bar my eyes caught sight of Marty, and damn did he look good. I looked to my left and saw Max chatting with Colby. I walked up to him and wrapped my arms tightly around his shoulders. "Thank you Max," I whispered into his ear, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "It's okay Av, we all thought that guy was cool and then he got drunk and turned into a total douche. I hope that didn't ruin your night." "No, it didn't. Sid calmed me down and I thought he was going to pro . . . oh nevermind, I will tell you later. I need to go say hi to that gorgeous Marty Turco," I smiled giving him another hug. I walked up to the bar. "Brad! Beer! Now!" I smiled as he poured me my IPA. "Thanks honey," I smiled as I walked over to Sidney who was talking to Marty. "Avery, this place is beautiful, I really like the hockey stick chandelier you got going on. If you ever need hockey memorabilia just let me know, I have the west coast connections as I'm sure Sid has the east coast," he smiled before pulling me into a hug. "That would be great Marty, thank you. I was actually thinking about hanging jerseys from the ceiling," I smiled then turned my attention to his beautiful blond wife, "you must be Kelly." I offered my hand and she took it in hers.

My father caught my attention from upstairs and I made my way up there. "Avery, I have to tell you," I could tell he had one too many beers. "This place is truly amazing. I am so proud of you. I always knew you would blow me out of the water, but you really did. Congratulations." I pulled my dad into a hug thanking him. I pulled away and a microphone was shoved into my hand. Are you kidding me? I tapped on the top to make sure it was on, and it was. "Hi guys," I smiled as everyones attention was directed toward me. "I wanted to thank all of you for coming out and helping me celebrate the opening of the Thunderbird Public House and Red Hook Pittsburgh. There are a few people I want to thank, first off my father for starting this brewery some twenty-seven years ago, and having faith in me to open this fine establishment. James, he's walked with me throughout this whole process and he's had to deal with my singing on those long days we did demolition in here. He's one tough guy. Carrie, thank you darling for keeping me sane. You are a diamond in the sky my dear. To everyone that helped build this place, each and every one of you is a savior in my eyes. To my best friends Colby and Max, I can't wait to make memories here with you guys. Thank you to Marty Turco for showing up, that was a very nice surprise for me, in my eyes your the second best looking guy in here, sorry Max and Colby. Finally, Sid. Oh, Mr. Sidney Crosby," I began to laugh just as everyone else did. "Where do I start with you? I know when my father presented me with the idea of opening a brewery out here I was considering going back to school, medical school. You told me to follow my heart, and well I really don't think anyone loves beer more than I do, it just made sense. You stood by me through this whole process though, and it wasn't easy. It was not easy on us. I love you babe, and I'm happy you've stuck with me." I held my beer in the air and everyone cheered.

I was exactly where I wanted to be, on the dance floor, buzzing yet again, sandwiched between Max and Sidney. "You know with all the shit that happened earlier, this night is turning out to be one hell of a night," I shouted to no one in particular. I had Sidney's hand on the front of my thigh with Max in front of me and his hand on my lower back. Heaven! I leaned forward a bit, rubbing my butt into Sidney's crotch, and I could feel Max's lips on my ear. He flicked his tongue at my ear and I pulled back a bit, as much as I wanted to know what Max could do with his tongue, we were drunk and I wasn't going to do that. He looked at me with a sad face and then looked at Sidney standing behind me. "Sid! You're a lucky son of a bitch I hope you know that!" he shouted and then made his way to the bar. Sidney wrapped his arms tightly around my waist and whispered into my ear, "oh I know I am, want to get out of here?" I nodded my head and he quickly grabbed my hand and led me out.

The city really felt alive that night as we drove home. Seemed like Sidney wasn't the only one in a depression after losing the cup, the whole city was too. "Hey, what was my brother doing?" Sidney tightened his grip on the steering wheel. Wow must have been pretty bad. "I will tell you later okay? You've already had an interesting night, but you were right about him. He's nothing like your family. He really is an asshole," he replied with a lot of anger in his voice. "Hey, want to come to Halifax with me? Just for a few days to get out of the city and relax?" I looked over at him and thought about it for a minute. "I would love that," I smiled taking his free hand in mine. My phone beeped alerting me I had a new message and I pulled it out. "Hey, we're meeting for hang over brunch tomorrow at Bob's, 11 sound good?" "Colby wants us to go to brunch tomorrow at 11, you down for that?" I asked Sidney. "Yeah, that's fine with me," he smiled as he pulled into the driveway. I quickly text Colby back letting him know we would be there.

The morning came all too soon and I made my way into the bathroom where Sidney was already taking a shower. I began laughing hysterically when I saw myself in the mirror. "What's so funny?" Sidney asked as he popped his head out from behind the shower curtain. I turned around to show him my fabulous new hair dew. "Oh wow, talk about bed head," he laughed before closing the shower curtain again. I picked up a brush and tried to comb through the mess, but it was impossible. "Are you almost done?" I asked Sidney and he yanked back the shower curtain. "Since when do we wait til the other is done to shower?" he asked massaging his scalp with shampoo. I raised my eyebrows at him. He makes a good point. I stripped down and got in the shower with him, and he helped me tackle my mountain of hair.

We sat down at the table in the cafe and Max looked terrible. "Had a rough night there last night bud?" Sidney asked with a laugh. "Don't yell," Max whispered holding his head in his hand. "So we had an interesting night last night, got home around six this morning," Colby starting looking at me. "Had to go get Riley out of jail." "What?!" My head shot up from the menu and Max grabbed onto his hair in pain from my loud voice. "He went on a drinking binge last night and starting walking around town being obnoxious, cops picked him up and kept him til this morning." "Where is he at now?" "At my place, probably still puking," Colby said not looking up from his menu. Wow. After a few minutes of silence Max, who was sitting next to me, lifted up the sleeve of my shirt to reveal a very nasty bruise. "That asshole," Max said as he rubbed his thumb over my bruise. "Hey, let's not talk about the bad stuff that happened last night," Sidney said quickly after everyone glanced over at my arm.

After our food was engulfed Sidney excused himself and went to the bathroom. "So what happened between you and Sidney last night that you said you will tell me later?" Max asked as Colby and Mel perked up with wide eyes. "We were in my office, and he knelt down and reached into his pocket and for some bizarre reason I thought he was going to propose, but he pulled out his phone and tied his shoe," I explained to them and then Colby immediately shouted, "so he didn't propose?!" I looked across the table at Colby very confused and saw Mel elbow him in the stomach. "Was he planning on it?" I asked looking around and no one would make eye contact with me, then Sidney came back and sat down. I slouched down in my seat a little stunned. Was he really planning on proposing? So soon? "Did I miss something good?" Sidney asked with a little laugh. I didn't look up but no one said anything, and then our waitress came over asking if we wanted anything else. "Yeah, I'll take a mimosa please," I smiled. "Make that two," Max smiled. "Sure you want to drink there Max?" Colby asked laughing. "It will make me feel better," he laughed.

Six hundred channels and nothing was on TV. I ran threw my emails and there really was nothing too exciting, just a lot of thank you's for the invite to the opening. I sent an email to Doug, who was hired as the breweries manager, letting him know I was going to be out of town for a few days and if he needed anything to just email me. I knew I needed to pack, but I was so out of it I didn't budge from the couch. Was Sidney really going to propose? I mean I know I'm getting old, but he's only 20! Sidney got back from his jog and crashed on the couch next to me. "So I got us a flight tomorrow, that okay?" "Yeah, perfect. I can't wait to see Nova Scotia. I was actually looking to go to Dalhousie University, but it wasn't far enough away from Riley," I chuckled then continued to flip through the channels. "Did you read the newspapers this morning? Your brewery was a big hit, every review was a very good one. Do you want to read them?" I flipped through a few more channels then turned on the couch to sit facing Sidney directly. "How old do you want to be when you get married?" He looked at me with wide eyes. "I just asked if you wanted to read the newspapers," he laughed then turn to face me to see that I was being serious. "Oh, I don't know. Why do you ask?" You were going to propose last night, that's why I want to know. "Oh I was just watching this wedding show where the couple were both 21-years-old, I always thought that was too young, but I don't know." I hate lying to him. "I guess when you know, you just know," he smiled. "Do you know?" "I know." Why do I want to run away from him right now?

Ooh, interesting little scenerio you got goin' here. A proposal? That whole scene where she thought that he was going to propose but pulled out his phone and tied his shoe had me on the edge of my seat. I was like, "Oh my God, is he...?"

I love all the characters in this story, but Max and Colby crack me up the most.

Please post more soon! =]
