033

Saturday morning sun began shining through my window and my nerves were already through the roof. I did as Sidney said and shut everyone out for the past two days. I was able to clear my mind and prepare myself for this day. I rolled over to find a red rose lying on Sidney's pillow with a note. "It's your big day, I am so proud of you. Went to get coffee and breakfast, be back soon. Take a hot shower and relax this morning. Love you." I crawled out of bed and went straight to the shower. This would be a lot better if Sid was in here with me. After I got out of the shower I blow dried my hair and put them up in rollers just in time for breakfast. I was excited to see he picked up my favorite guilty pleasure, peanut butter stuffed deep-fried french toast. I gave him a quick kiss before digging in. "so I ran into this Ivan guy at the shop, he seems pretty cool," he said with a mouth full. "How did you know it was him?" "He knew who I was and I guess your parents told him we were dating. He said he's been trying to call you." I looked up confused. No he hasn't. I shrugged it off and continued eating breakfast. "There's one other thing, your mother called this morning, well she called me." My head shot up with wide eyes. "Your brother is in town he will be there tonight." Oh great, Riley AND Robert? My eyes went back down to my food and I tried not to think about it. "Avery, he's your brother." I stuffed my mouth full of food so I wouldn't have to talk to him. "Avery!" I swallowed my food and slowly looked up at him. "Just because we're blood related doesn't mean he's my brother, Colby is my brother, Max is my brother. Robert just happens to have the same parents as I do." Sidney's face turn beat red and I could tell he was getting a little pissed off. "We all say shitty things about our family, I know sometimes Taylor hates me because I never get to see her, but we're family. At least he showed up to support you. He can't be that bad, you're one hell of a catch, are you trying to tell me he's nothing like your family?" I took a sip of my coffee and tried to compose myself. "Everyone says shitty things, but they eventually apologize and get over it. You don't know my brother. He dropped out of college after two years, moved to New Hampshire because my dad made him, for the breweries sake he would say. He's done nothing but make me feel like shit since freshman year of high school. He's not proud in what I do. I've told you all of this before, he finds something wrong in everything I do, I'm not good enough. He's perfect, not only in his own eyes, but in my parent's eyes as well. Why do you think I get so emotional when my father praises me? It's because I never hear that from him, I always hear him saying wonderful things about Robert, but never me. I worked my ass off. I finished school, I got my masters, I built this brewery on my own. He's done nothing, yet he's the golden child and puts me down for it. It's not fair Sidney, can you understand why I don't want him there tonight?" I could barely talk through my tears they were flowing so fast. He pulled me into a hug and began apologizing into my ear.

His grip around my waist tightened when I tried to get up. All of the emotions that were set off earlier in the day exhausted me and we took a quick nap. "Sid, I need to get up," I moaned still trying to wiggle out. "It's only 10:30, you're not getting out of this bed til I'm done with you," he whispered as I felt his hand slip under the front band of my underwear. The tingle that went through my body sent me back to that night in Toronto. He still did it to me, still made my stomach do cartwheels. I rolled my hips into his and felt his hand go further down. I arched my back, resting my head on his neck. "I'm happy your took your curlers out," he laughed as he kissed my ear. I threw my left leg over his legs, giving him better access, and he slowly began to massage me. "Sid," I moaned, "you know how I hate foreplay. Come on babe." He leaned back, and I rolled onto my back. He crawled on top of me slowly taking my tank top off. In one swift move, he picked me up and had me on top of him, it always amazed me at how strong he was. I pulled his shirt up off of him and he starred into my eyes. Those almond-shaped hazel eyes, anyone could get lost in them. "What was the first thing you thought when you saw me?" he asked squeezing his hands around my waist. "Other than asshole?" I laughed and he gave me a pathetic sad look. "The first thing I noticed were your legs, and how you walked. I thought you were hurt," I smiled leaning back rubbing his thighs with my hands. "You thought I was hurt because of how I walked, oh wow," he laughed pulling me down to him for a kiss. "What about me? What did you think?" I asked him as my kisses trailed down his chin and neck. "I thought I was screwed, but later in the car when you were making fun of Army, I thought you were the perfect girl. I've seen girls get hurt, and never once have I seen someone make fun of someone else with a tampon up their nose, as hurt as you were. I knew you were my dream girl." I pulled away from his neck and looked at him. "I'm happy I fell in love with you and not another scumbag," I smiled before reaching back and yanking his sweats off.

After my second shower of the day, my hair was once again up in curlers. "Is there anything you need me to do?" Sidney asked as I looked around my bathroom not knowing what I needed to do myself. Oh crap! "Yeah actually, if you can run to the store for me, I need hairspray and black mascara. Just plain black mascara whatever they have. I can't believe I forgot to go get some," I smiled at him and he leaned over and gave me a kiss. The minute Sidney stepped out the house my cell phone began to ring. "Hello?" "Avery, how are you?" his thick accent made me go weak in the knees a bit. "Hi Ivan, I'm doing good, just trying to chill out before tonight. I heard you ran into my boyfriend this morning." "I did, when your parents told me you were dating Sidney Crosby I didn't believe it at first. I didn't think he was human," he laughed. I didn't know what to say, it felt a little awkward. "Well, I will let you relax a bit, I will see you tonight," he said before quickly hanging up. That was odd. I looked around and didn't know what to do with myself. I very badly wanted to get ready, but it was way too early, it felt like prom all over again. Just as I relaxed on the couch my cell phone went into overdrive, call after call.

For once in my life, my hair did what I wanted it to do, which was a huge relief. I could only hope that the curls would keep up all night, but luckily Sidney bought some industrial strength hair spray, so I had faith. I curled my eyelashes, made one last check in the mirror and I was ready to go. Finally!! "Hey Sid, did Nathalie give you those shoes she said she would let me borrow?" I shouted from the bedroom. "No, but don't worry, I bought you a pair of shoes you might like. It's kind of a congratulations gift," he smirked walking into the room with a shoe box wrapped in newspaper. "Nice wrap job," I laughed looking at it, the comics. Classic. I ripped the paper off and nearly dropped the box when I saw the name on the top. Gucci. Gucci! "You know I got you shoes, not just a box," Sidney laughed as he saw me starring at the box. I opened the lid to find a beautiful pair of black peep-toe Mary Jane pumps, with a crystal encrusted heel. I quickly slipped into them and they really pulled the outfit together. "Wow I'm almost as tall as you now. Thank you Sid, they're beautiful. Did you pick them out yourself?" He started to laugh, "just picture this, Max, Colby and I all staring at high heels, a side of Max came out that I had never seen before. He was throwing words out there I've never heard before, peep-toe, stiletto, swore-vor-skor, or something like that." I began to laugh and gave him a kiss, "stick to hockey."

The brewery came into sight and the place looked crazy, spotlights, ropes, photographers, and a few limos. "All this for a brewery huh?" I asked laughing. "It's the talk of the town, why not?" Sidney pulled up to the front and I took a deep breath. We drove my car since no one could see in the windows, and I could collect myself before stepping out. Sidney got out first and walked around to my door. He opened my door and I carefully climbed out to be welcome by cheers. We walked in and I was overwhelmed by everyone welcoming me. I should be the one welcoming them. The minute I showed up Carrie pulled me away to take care of all of the interviews and photo opportunities. I dragged Sidney with me, he was good at interviews, I wasn't. After an hour and hundreds of pictures I made my way to the bar, leaving Sidney to socialize with some of his teammates. "Brad! Beer! Now!" I yelled at my bartender. "You look smokin' hot Avery, here it's on the house," he laughed handing me the beer. I turned around only to be greeted by those eyes, that always broken nose, and those dimples. "Why hello Ivan," I smiled as he wrapped me into a hug, I had to be careful not to spill my beer on him. "Ahoj," he smiled and I had to pull myself away from starring at him. "This place looks amazing, congratulations." "Thank you, hey I really need to go around and greet people, but I want to sit down and talk with you later, okay?" he nodded his head and I walked away, not without turning around to see him checking me out head to toe. Mom was right, he sure is a man now. "Man those legs go for days don't they?" I heard an all too familiar voice from behind me. I turned around to see a very sharp looking Max. I smiled to the rest of the boys he was with from the team and gave Max a big hug, feeling his hand slide up and down my back. I made my way around the whole lower level greeting everyone and thanking them for coming out.

I grabbed Sidney and headed upstairs. "Little flashy for a brewery isn't it?" my mother asked laughing spinning me around. "Maybe a little, but I don't care, I feel great in it," I smiled giving her and my father a hug. Over my dad's should I caught sight of Sidney's parents. "You guys were able to make it! Thanks so much for coming!" I smiled pulling each of them into a hug. "This is truly amazing Avery, it left Troy and I speechless when we walked in," Trina smiled clinking her beer to mine. I looked around the couches and saw the boys were reconnecting, my father, Troy and Mario. I wanted to go give Colby and Mel hugs but there were too busy making out in the corner, so I figured I would come back to them. I looked over the railing down at everyone mingling and enjoying themselves. I felt Sidney's arm wrap around my waist and I tilted my head against his shoulder. "You did it baby. I am so proud of you." I turned to look at him and gave him a big kiss before I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see that perfect face, the perfect blond hair but not the perfect smile, actually no smile at all. "Robert," I said greeting him with no emotion. "Congratulations Avery, are you going to introduce me to your boyfriend?" he asked looking at Sidney. I introduced them and stood there silently just waiting to see what he would have to say. Nothing, he smiled at me and walked away. "What was that about?" Sidney asked still watching Robert walk away. "Maybe he's impressed, I don't know." Nor do I care.

As expected I drank too much and found myself dancing around downstairs. I had my arm wrapped around Colby's neck as we rocked back and forth to some rap song. That was the only way he knew how to dance. "Did Riley show up?" I asked yelling over the music. "I don't think so, haven't seen him." He smiled spinning me around. "Did he do it yet?" he asked me as the songs changed. "Did who do what?" I asked with a very confused look on my face. "Oh nothing, nevermind." "Colby, you never keep anything from me, what are you talking about?" Just as Colby opened his mouth to talk an arm wrapped around my waist pulling me away. Max pulled me tight into him and I could feel his breath on my neck. I turned around in his grip and threw my hands behind his neck. He placed his hand on my lower back, grabbing hold of my hand and dipping me very low, pulling me back up to him where our chests were touching, lips only inches apart. We were both breathing very fast. "Has he done it yet?" he asked staring at my mouth. I pulled away. "Has who done what?" I shouted becoming a little irritated. My direction was drawn away from a motionless Max to the front door where I saw Robert yelling at Sidney. I began to walk their way when Ivan pulled me into his arms. "Ivan, not now, give me five minutes okay," I smiled as I went to walk away but he grabbed me by my upper arm and pulled me toward him, his grip was hurting, I felt like I was losing feeling in my fingers. "No, I'm tired of waiting around for you, I flew all the way out here to be with you. Now be with me." I looked back over at Sidney and my brother and they were still arguing. I went to walk away and Ivan pulled me back into him. "Hey, let her go!" Max yelled grabbing onto Ivan's arm. "This is bullshit, you know that! Max, get him out of here," I yelled as Ivan's grip around me loosened and I was able to slip away. I walked up behind Sidney and tried to figure out what they were talking about. "She didn't want you here for this very reason, you are a complete asshole, and I want you out of here before she hears you talking crap like you are. Every single person in this building is very proud of what Avery did, and she did it on her own, very little guidance from her father, you can't take that away from her. Get the hell out of here," Sidney yelled in his face. Robert saw me just beyond Sidney and he turned around and left. I turned around and saw some of the guys still arguing with Ivan. I need to disappear.

Black mascara dripped onto my hands. He didn't get waterproof! I heard a light knock on the door and Sidney walked in. "I was wondering where you went, why are you crying?" He asked rushing to my side, leaning against my desk in front of me. "Bullshit, why are guys such assholes? I see my brother being a dick to you, so I go to see what's going on, and Ivan grabs me by my arm pissed off at me," I explained to him looking down at my arm where a bruise was already forming. "He did that to you? Is he still here?" He asked jumping up. "No, Max and Staalsy kicked him out. I just, I don't know, why did all of this have to happen tonight? What time is it?" I wiped the rest of the mascara off of my face. "A few minutes past midnight, you want to go home?" "Not yet, just stay here with me for a bit, okay?" I asked smiling and he nodded. I need to figure out what Colby and Max were talking about. "Hey Avery, I love you," Sidney smiled holding my hand in his. "I love you too," I sniffed. I could feel him starring at me, but I didn't want him to see me so broken down, worse than before. He stood up from the desk and knelt down next to me, still holding on to my hand. My eyes grew wide as he reached into his pocket. Woah, woah, woah!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?
