Where's that knife? That alarm clock was annoying me, but I dragged myself up out of bed and went straight for the shower. When I came out I saw I had a voicemail. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end when I heard Sidney's voice. "I will be at your house in a hour to pick you up, hope you didn't forget you're coming to Toronto with us." There was a little chuckle in his voice. I totally thought he was joking the day before, but I guess not. I guess I was heading for Toronto. I was blessed to have the kind of hair that will air dry and look like I spent hours on it giving it it's wavy look, so I lucked out there getting ready. I had no idea what to wear to the game so I threw everything imaginable in a duffel bag. Toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, blow dryer, deodorant, was that it? Just as I was slipping some boots on over my jeans there was a knock on the door. Deep breath's Avery, deep breath's. I flipped the lights off in my bedroom and went to the front door. There he stood in a suit, looking amazing. "Wow the living room looks great, what did you do?" he was trying so hard to sound like he was being serious, but couldn't hide his laughter. I rolled my eyes at him and grabbed my bag. One last check to make sure I had everything and I was out the door.
It was every girls dream as I walked down the center aisle of the airplane. He's hot, he's hot, oh la la Hi Max, oh no teeth, WATCH OUT!! "Okay, here is your seat, I'm sure after takeoff Colby and I will come back here and chat with you, but I've very strict about my pregame rituals so if I don't make here down here, please forgive me," he smiled as I took my seat and saw a beautiful blond sitting in the seat across the aisle from me. She looked over and smiled. "You must be Avery." My head shot up. "I am," I smiled wanting so badly to cover my nose with my hand. "Nathalie Lemieux, it's nice to meet you. Sidney has become very fond of you," she smiled shifting her body to look at me direct on. I couldn't hide the fact that I was blushing, I was getting use to it by now anyways. "Oh, I think he just feels bad for what happened still, even though I told him not to worry about it." "Okay dear, I can let you think that," she laughed a little before Mario came and sat next to her. "Hi Avery, nice to see you again, also nice to see some of the bruising is going away," Mario greeted me. "I don't even know how the bruising is going, I throw so much makeup on to cover it up, must be helping," I laughed. "We tried to get you your own hotel room for tonight, but we weren't able to get one, so I hope it's okay that we're going to let you room with Colby," he smiled looking for my approval. "Oh that's perfect, thanks for letting me come along."
Ten minutes after takeoff, Sidney and Colby made their way back to me. "Do you know how to play Call of Duty?" Colby asked as he was starring at his PSP with a very angry look on his face. "We can't find Flower." Sidney added. What the hell was Call of Duty? The slid into the seats in front of me and continued to play their game. "Ah ha!!! Gotcha Flower, you can't hide from me!" Sidney yelled to the front of the plane. Colby and Sidney exchanged high fives before they both looked at me at the same time. I couldn't help but laugh. "Oh, Avery, you're nose, it's bleeding," Sidney stated standing up, taking me by the hand to the bathroom. "Must be from the altitude," I laughed cleaning the blood from my nostrils. Sidney lowered his head, playing with his fingers. "Hey kid, it's okay. Remember that," I smiled and he gave me a smile back. I wish my lips looked like that.
It was a very short flight to Toronto, and the cold winter air went straight to my bones. "You okay?" Sidney asked me walking up to me. "I don't think I have ever felt the air this cold before," I laughed tugging on my jacket at the edges. I kept my head down to protect my eyes from the freezing wind. I felt something wrap around my neck, and it was Sidney giving me his scarf. I looked up and him and smiled. I dug my shoulder into his arm and we walked to the bus. Once on the bus, I sat down next to Colby across the aisle from Sidney. I pulled gloves out of my purse and quickly slipped them onto my frozen fingers. "Hold the phone!" Sidney yelled grabbing my hand. "No, sorry, here please wear these," he stated pulling a pair of his own out of his bag. I looked at him completely confused, they were both knit and they were both black. Will my fingers melt if I wear my own gloves? "Those are Nike, these are Reebok, please," he begged. Oh yeah, he's the Reebok boy. I forgot.
I followed Colby into the hotel room to see that Sidney followed us in too. "Aww, you didn't get your own room?" Colby teased me as I just stood in the corner and watched to see who would claim which bed. "Well Mario told me to shack up with you tonight Colby," I smiled winking at him. I saw Sidney set his bag down on the bed closest to the window, so I threw my bag onto the other bed the same time Colby threw his bag on it. Damn, could have made a move just then. "So what do you guys do before the game?" I asked curious to see what Sidney would say. "Well you and I are going to go sit at a coffee shop somewhere, while Sid takes his nap, then dinner, then the game," Colby smiled wrapping an arm around my shoulder. I began to dig through my duffel bag pulling out all of my warm clothes. "Here," Sidney said tossing a sweatshirt over my shoulder. I turned around and looked at him with the sweatshirt still on my head. "You look scary like that with your nose and all," he laughed. I pulled the sweatshirt on over my head and could smell his cologne. I stopped pulling on the sweatshirt when the neck rested on the bridge of my nose, with only my hair sticking out the top of the sweatshirt. "Does it hurt your nose? Do you need help?" I could hear Sidney asked and then Colby burst out in laughter. "No, leave me, I'm enjoying something real quick, just hold on," I laughed. After a few seconds I grabbed onto the neck and pulled it down over my nose and I had a big smile on my face. "What was that about?" Sidney asked rolling up the corner of his lip. "You wear Burberry Brit," I smiled and winked at him before Colby and I left.
We sat in the back corner of a really cute coffee shop about three blocks from the hotel. I tapped my fingers on my cup and looked around admiring the art. "You like him," Colby smiled looking straight through me. "I do like him, as a friend, not in the way you want me to like him," I laughed very nervously. "Okay, we'll come back to that later, so do I need to start calling you Dr. Avery Winters?" "One day, not yet though. Right now I only have my masters, I eventually want to go back and get my PhD," I laughed before sipping on my Americano. "Wow, you're so young though." "Well if you forgot, I'll refresh your memory," I laughed before continuing, "I skipped a grade, and then by the time I got to the University I was already in my second year thanks to college credits I got in high school. So by the time eighteen year olds like myself got to college I was already in my third year. Got my bachelors degree when I was 20, went to South Africa graduated with a masters in sports medicine, now I'm here. I just need a little bit of time before I go back and hopefully get my PhD, I really pushed myself hard for eight years, I deserve a break," I smiled beginning to tap my cup again. "You also deserve a great guy, and I know of one sleeping at the Marriott right now in room 423," Colby looked at me with a huge grin on his face. "He's too young for me, I'm ancient. I brought up Fraggle Rock the other night and he had no idea what I was talking about," I couldn't hold back my laughter. Honestly? Fraggle Rock was only the greatest thing to ever be shown on television. Colby's eyes grew wide, "you're shitting me." I couldn't say anything all I could do was shake my head.
